Using Zoom and Blackboard Collaborate

Some classes will require you to connect remotely to recieve the session content. The following information will help you access the most commonly used applications in medical school classes.

Zoom
Zoom videoconferencing may be used for many of your class activities. All students must use these Setting Up Zoom instructions to make sure they are correctly logged into the Zoom app on their deives. By doing this and by accessing sessions using the Zoom app with the Meeting ID and Passcode you will seemlessly be able to be moved into small groups when they are used in class sessions.

Classes will typically have authentication enabled so you must be logged into the Zoom app with your Drexel credentials in order to join the Zoom class.

Keep your Zoom app Up-to-date
If you are already logged in then in the upper left of the Zoom app click on the box where your initial appear and a menu show up.
Select CHECK FOR UPDATES in that menu and follow the instructions to update.
You can also just go to https://zoom.us/download and download the Zoom client for Meetings which will update you current app.

Screen Sharing in a Zoom meeting
We typically allow screen sharing for particpaints. IOS users, see this information how to enable screen sharing.

Every Student has a Zoom Account
All students have a Drexel Zoom account which you may find useful to set up your own Zoom meetings with other students, groups and for events. See this PDF guide about Using Zoom to Create Your Own Meetings.

Additional information about Zoom can be found at the Drexel University IT Zoom page

See Zoom's Training page to learn how to use Zoom in a meeting

Blackboard Collaborate
Collaborate is a
realtime, synchronous videoconferencing tool built into Blackboard. Some courses may make Collaborate meetings available and offer it to your group in Blackboard for your group to use.

See this PDF for how to use Collaborate on your own with your assigned group.

In Blackboard look in the left-hand menu under "My Groups". Expand your group to see any tools available, If Collaborate is available it will say "Collaborate" here. Click on it to open Collabrate in the main window then join your group session.

Additional information about Collaborate can be found at Drexel University IT.

Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business
Other applications are also available for your use to communicate and collaborate in real time. Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business are available in Office 365. See Available Apps and Support from the Drexel-IT website for more information.

Kaltura Drexel Streams
Drexel's video storage tool is called Kaltura and branded as "Drexel Streams". Upload your own Drexel video and share it with others or link directly from a Blackboard course (if you are authorized to edit a course). Basic capture, editing and interactivity tools are available. To access log into DrexelOne, then click the "Campus+Community tab", then in the bottom-right of the page under "Technology Services" see Drexel Streams. See https://drexel.edu/it/help/a-z/kaltura/ for more information.
